He had to move the ground twice but eventually settled in the north west of the capital having taken the original turf with him - the first game here was in 1814. Lord's is owned by Marylebone Cricket Club and its tenants include the ECB, the International Cricket Council and Middlesex County Cricket Club. As well as hosting most of the Middlesex home games many of the domestic finals in England are played there.
England first played Pakistan at Lord's in June 1954 and the match was a rain-affected draw. During the second Test in 1962, England won by a convincing nine wickets. But one of the most memorable matches between the two sides at Lord's was the second Test in 1992. England were bowled out for 255 in their first innings, with Pakistan replying with 293. England collapsed to 175 all out leaving Pakistan just 138 runs for victory. A brilliant bowling burst by Chris Lewis put Pakistan on the back foot as they struggled on 95-8. But just when England glimpsed a remarkable victory, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis hung on to steer Pakistan to a famous win. OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester: Second Test, 31 May to 4 June Address: Talbot Road, Old Trafford, Manchester M16 0PX Lancashire County Cricket Club was founded in 1864, although cricket matches have been played at Old Trafford since 1857. Lancashire played their first county match at home against Middlesex in 1865 and won by 62 runs. The first war of the Roses against Yorkshire was staged two years later.
England faced the Australians and the home side lost by three runs after a brilliant Victor Trumpeters century. England first played Pakistan at Old Trafford in a Test match in 1954 - it ended in a draw. In fact, England and Pakistan have only met each other three times in Test matches in Manchester, in 1954, 1987 and 1992. Fans have yet to witness a win between the two sides as they have all ended in draws. |
