Bridgend captain Huw Harries
"A good win but not the best performance"

Bridgend 25 - 3 Edinburgh Reivers

Bridgend continued to set the pace at the top of the Welsh-Scottish League after maintaining their 100% record against the Reivers at the Brewery Field.

Bridgend overcame some stern resistance from the Scots who produced a significant improvement on their dismal performance at Cardiff last week.

But tries from skipper Huw Harries, Maama Molitika and Richard Bryan ensured Bridgend a fourth successive league win.

With constant drizzle making ball handling extremely difficult, the opening quarter produced precious few scoring opportunities.

Late penalty

It took Bridgend 37 minutes to break the deadlock as Tongan centre Siua Taumalolo broke through two Edinburgh tackles and fed flanker Jamie Ringer who found scrum-half Harries in support for a try converted by Craig Warlow.

In the 40th minute Edinburgh fly-half Gordon Ross landed a penalty to cut the deficit but Warlow responded with an injury-time effort to make it 10-3.

The fly-half added another penalty 15 minutes into the second half but Bridgend had to wait until six minutes from time for the try that settled the outcome.

Molitika broke from a driving maul and stretched over to ground the ball with Gareth Cull adding the conversion.

I can't speak highly enough of the players. To have come through such a tough week with a 100 % record makes it worthwhile

In injury-time number eight Bryan popped up on the wing to claim Bridgend's third try and put the icing on the cake.

Reivers disappointment

Edinburgh Reivers coach Frank Hadden admits that he is still trying to find a cure for his side's away day blues.

"We are very disappointed," said Hadden.

"The conditions did not help and the ball was extremely difficult to handle in the rain but you can't keep on making excuses.

"It was a far better performance than the one at Cardiff last time out but then again Cardiff are a far differing kettle of fish than Bridgend.

"Our problem at the moment is that we are just not contributing enough in attack to worry sides."

Bridgend coach Dennis John paid tribute to his side after watching them register a fourth successive league win - their third in a week.

"I can't speak highly enough of the players" said John.

"Some of them are out on their feet but to have come through such a tough week with a 100 % record makes it worthwhile.

John delight

"I thought our defence was outstanding. Edinburgh are virtually an international side and to restrict them to only three points is a tremendous achievement."
