Irresistible Newport outclass Ebbw
Newport's Matt Mostyn
Irish international Matt Mostyn scored twice for Newport as they demolished Ebbw Vale
Newport 56 - 24 Ebbw Vale

Shane Howarth followed up his 21 points against Swansea with another 24 as Newport romped to victory over their Gwent rivals.

Newport scored seven tries despite having forwards Gareth Taylor and Adrian Garvey sin-binned and making a string of replacements.

Winger Matt Mostyn enhanced his chances of an Ireland recall with two cracking tries, Howarth kicked Newport into a third-minute lead with a penalty and then landed another, this time from nearly 50 yards.

Howarth was at it again when he dodged through for Newport's first try which he also converted.

Running riot

Jason Strange replied with a Vale penalty, but Newport retaliated immediately when flanker Jason Forster shot over in the corner for Howarth to convert from near touch.

Newport were running riot and Mostyn raced across for his first try which Howarth converted.

Newport suffered blows in quick succession when Taylor (throwing the ball away) and Garvey (obstruction) were both yellow carded. Shaun Connor took advantage by darting across for a try which Strange converted.

But Newport still broke through when Mostyn dashed over for his second try, Howarth again converting.

Vale hit back when flanker Gareth Green forced his way over only for Howarth to land his third penalty.

Newport then scored the try of the match when acting captain Andy Marinos broke through superbly, handed on to Howarth, who took the ball one handed, transferred to Peter Buxton who put Forster across again.

Vale nabbed a late consolation try when Stephen John sliced through for Strange to convert, but there was still time for Buxton to barge across for Newport's final try.
