Stand-off Gordon Ross proved to be the hero as the Reivers bounced back from their mauling at Cardiff to secure their second league win of the season.

Ross, who played for his club Heriot's FP on Saturday, claimed all the points for his side in a thriller at Netherdale.

He was only in the Reivers side as a replacement following an injury to Scotland international Duncan Hodge.

Llanelli had taken an early lead in the contest before the boot of Ross brought the Reivers back into the game late in the first half.

In a dramatic conclusion Stephen Jones levelled the scores with three minutes left, but Ross secured the points in injury time.

In a match littered with penalties, Ross landed seven penalties and a conversion and touched down the only try for the Reivers.

Reivers opened brightly and Iain Fullarton was knocked into touch near the visitors line, but it was Llanelli who opened the scoring from the boot of Stephen Jones after four minutes.

Ross levelled the scores with a penalty, before the visitors' lead was restored through the boot of Jones.

Leslie injury

Reivers lost Martin Leslie to injury before Llanelli extended their lead with a try from Guy Easterby, his first for the club after a summer transfer from Ebbw Vale, converted by Jones.

A further four penalties from Ross gave the Reivers a brief lead before Jones landed his second successful penalty in the sixth minute of injury time to give the visitors a half-time lead.

Ross added a fifth penalty early in the second half to re-establish the Reivers advantage, but the young stand-off missed another opportunity moments later.

Another kick from Jones gave the visitors the lead.

Both Reivers' Barry Stewart and Llanelli's Phil Booth were sin-binned after an incident on the ground on which referee Iain Ramage took advice from his touch-judge.

After a break down the left, Reivers regained possession from the line out and Ross broke through the Llanelli defence to touch down.

Ross converted, but from the restart Jones added a further penalty for the visitors.

Jones then levelled the scores with three minutes left, only for Ross to give the Reivers the victory in injury time.
