Bridgend moved to the top of the Welsh-Scottish League without having to move into second gear at the Brewery Field.

For the new leaders it was a case of after the Lord Mayor's Show following their resounding defeat of Llanelli last weekend.

Glasgow offered a limited challenge but took the chance to pile up 14 points without reply while Bridgend were down to 14 men after star centre Josh Taumalolo had been sin-binned for a dangerously high tackle.

Before Taumalolo had been sent to the cooler, Bridgend had steadily built a 29-6 lead through tries by lock Tim Collier, Jamie Ringer and Tongan aces Taumalolo and Mama Molitika.

We have realistically targeted a top-six league finish to qualify for the European Cup
  Bridgend skipper Huw Harries
Glasgow grabbed a try by the excellent Roland Reid and James Craig after the winger had intercepted a try-scoring Bridgend pass.

That was the only error made by home fly-half Craig Warlow, who added another 14 points to the 26 he piled up last weekend and hoisted his tally past the half-century mark in only three games.

But Bridgend regained control as Molitika charged down a Tommy Hayes clearance to cross and Gareth Jones added a sixth home touchdown.

As Bridgend made a catalogue of errors in the final quarter, Caley finished with a flourish to engineer a third try when Jonathan Steel broke free to race 30 metres to the posts.

Durston went over for the final Bridgend score, made for him by the dynamic Taumalolo.

The intensity of this league is very high and compares favourably to that which I experienced playing for Harlequins
  Bridgend skipper Huw Harries
Upbeat

Bridgend skipper Huw Harries was in upbeat mood after the win.

"After our excellent result against Llanelli last weekend it was vitally important to keep our feet on the ground and follow up with another victory.

"Though we were some way below our best we achieved the job in hand although the players were very tired towards the end.

"I expected a lot more from Glasgow but it must be hard for them with the amount of travelling they have to do.

"The intensity of this league is very high and compares favourably to that which I experienced playing for Harlequins.

"It is a big honour to captain Bridgend and I have had tremendous support both on and off the field. We have realistically targeted a top-six league finish to qualify for the European Cup.

"If we remain injury free and retain our self belief I see no reason why we cannot achieve that goal," he said.

If we can tune ourselves to the intensity of this league the Reds will be there competing in the top half of the table
  Glasgow coach Richie Dixon
Caley defiant

Caley head coach Richie Dixon remained defiant in the face of a second successive defeat in Wales.

"We must learn that we cannot afford to gift three tries off our own errors, especially against a side playing with the confidence that Bridgend are at the moment.

"We may have lost but there were great pluses to be gained especially our ball retention and commitment. If we can tune ourselves to the intensity of this league the Reds will be there competing in the top half of the table.

"It's perhaps taken a little longer for our home-based players to adapt but that will come with each game and our identity is such that we want to do well for rugby north of the border.

"I think that in time our credibility will improve and by playing the sort of adventurous rugby that we did against Bridgend it will bring the crowds back through the turnstiles in time," he said.
