Swansea find their stride

Wales centre Mark Taylor was in outstanding form as Swansea saw off Caerphilly 59-20 to record their first Welsh-Scottish win of the season.

Taylor scored two tries and had a hand in most of his side's best attacks as Swansea shook off last week's depressing defeat at Pontypridd.

But it was only in the second half that Swansea began to pull away from the challenge thrown down by the visitors.

Caerphilly arrived full of confidence following a 31-13 victory over Glasgow last week and for long periods of the opening half looked the better side.

But Swansea, with a side boasting 10 internationals, eventually found their stride and scored the six second-half tries without reply.

After an early kicking contest between fly-halves Arwel Thomas and Luke Richards, the game began to open out.

And while Swansea did most of the attacking, it was Caerphilly wing Nigel Berbillion who scored the first try following a break by centre Geraint Evans.

They added another through Andrew Williams, but Swansea scored two via Dean Thomas and the impressive Taylor.

But the second half was a different story with Swansea dominating every phase and scoring some excellent tries.

Full-back Kevin Morgan entered the line at pace to claim the first, and tries in quick succession by Scott Gibbs, Paul Moriarty and Colin Charvis put the game out of Caerphilly's reach.

The best try came at the death when replacement fly-half Gavin Henson jinked his way through the cover from halfway for a superb score on his Swansea debut.
