Cardiff ran in 10 tries to destroy the hapless Reivers and underline their determination to hang on to the Welsh-Scottish League title.

Wales skipper Dai Young marked his 100th appearance for the Blue and Blacks with a 10th-minute try, but then had to limp off with a calf-muscle strain.

His colleagues shrugged off the loss of the influential prop to romp to a comfortable victory, with Neil Jenkins chipping in with 31 points.

Cardiff veteran Owain Williams forced his way over for the second try after namesake Martyn had been held up on the line.

With Jenkins firing over kicks from all angles, the champions built a 23-9 lead by the interval as the Scots had to settle for three penalties by Duncan Hodge.

Although the Reivers introduced Scotland star Chris Paterson to bolster their midfield, Cardiff maintained their domination with winger Nick Walne finishing off a flowing move and lock Steve Moore crossing near the posts.

Jenkins took a break from slotting over goals to dart in for a try himself, while Craig Morgan, who has scored in his last 14 games for Cardiff, sprinted in twice in two minutes.

He later completed his hat-trick while centre Jamie Robinson raced over twice either side of a consolation effort for the visitors by flanker Martin Leslie.
