Caerphilly 36 - 3 Cross Keys

Caerphilly swept aside the Welsh-Scottish League new boys to leave them rooted at the foot of the table.

The Castletown-men had much the better of a clash that was littered with unforced errors.

They crossed for five touchdowns, with the pace of right wing Nigel Berbillion bringing him a brace of tries.

Former Bridgend number eight Andrew Williams, Fijian prop Sisi Fonua and Sean Marshall also crossed.

Caerphilly had much too much pace and power for the outgunned visitors who seem set for a season of turmoil.

Caerphilly made the early running, snatching a fifth-minute try by Williams which Luke Richards converted.

Keys responded with a Jamie Webb penalty after a scrum had created problems for the home pack.

But that was the visitors' only return as the hosts restored their lead when Berbillion skilfully scooped up a loose ball to race in from close range.

Richards converted and added a drop goal before he was forced to retire with a broken nose and Caerphilly's sparkle behind the scrum went with him.

Although Keys battled bravely, they were sunk when a mistake by Matthew McCarthy led to speedster Berbillion crossing for his second touchdown after he had raced 60 metres to the posts.

The visitors made a desperate attempt to halt the slide, bringing on half a dozen replacements, but it failed to stop prop Fonua crossing for his first try for Caerphilly.

Keys were even denied a consolation score when replacement Darren Davies crossed, only to see it ruled out for an earlier offence.

The Green Army completed the rout when replacement Chris John broke free to set up a try at the posts for left wing Marshall.
