![]() | Swansea too strong for Bridgend ![]() Bridgend still need one win for Europe Bridgend 16-34 Swansea Swansea kept their Welsh-Scottish league title hopes alive in a nervous game at the Brewery Field on Saturday. The All Whites are level on points with Cardiff at the top of the table, but have a far superior try count. The defeat was a blow to Bridgend's hopes of gaining Wales' final Heineken Cup spot next season. They must win one of their remaining three games - against Neath, Caerphilly and Swansea again - to reach European club rugby's premier competition for the first time. The Ravens never really troubled Swansea, with the power of Swansea's tight five and pace of their backs telling factors. Devastating But it was teenage fly-half Gavin Henson who stole the show with a number of superb breaks and accuracy with the boot. Swansea started the second period with a bang scoring two excellent tries in the first five minutes. Both came courtesy of fast fluid back play with full-back Shaun Payne racing clear for the first. The second for flanker Colin Charvis followed a devastating break from Henson. Bridgend looked in trouble at 6-20 down, but hit back with a try from powerhouse centre John Devereux. He flattened Henson and two other Swansea tacklers on a burst to the line off a short pass from Huw Harries. Craig Warlow set up an exciting finish with a conversion and penalty, but a drop goal and two penalty kicks from Henson edged Swansea into an unassailable lead. Matthew Robinson rounded things off in style with a try in injury time. The first-half was a tense affair lightened only by a wonderful try for Matthew Robinson set up by number eight Geraint Lewis. The Wales back row man floated a delightful chip for Robinson to gather and gallop over unopposed. Warlow kept Bridgend in touch with two penalties. Henson kicked one for the Whites.
