Ebbw Vale 14-43 Llanelli

Right wing Mark Jones and prop Phil Booth both touched down twice in Llanelli's seven-try romp as the Scarlets booked a place in next season's Heineken Cup.

Llanelli, 19-7 ahead at half-time after having the wind in their favour, cut loose after the interval to emphasise their superiority.

With 11 internationals, including all their back division, against Vale's four capped players, Llanelli were too strong.

Ebbw Vale, with only five league wins this season, were in the hunt for a short while when they cut their deficit to 14-7 after a try by centre Rhys Shorney.

But they had to wait until injury time for their second try by scrum-half Richard Smith.

Landmark

Llanelli passed 600 points this season as they gained their sixth successive league win.

The Scarlets' final match is at home to Cardiff on Saturday, but the pressure is now off.

But Ebbw Vale face another task in their last league match away to Neath on Friday night.

Llanelli's back row paved the way to this victory with Irish flanker Simon Easterby setting the standard in his first match back in 10 months after injury.

Llanelli's new Lion, hooker Robin McBryde, was prominent with several bursts before giving way to Marcus Thomas for the final quarter.

Fellow Lions Dafydd James and Scott Quinnell did not play though the former was on the bench.

James stood down with a slight strain.

The club had further cause for celebration when four of their players - Mark Jones, Stephen Jones, Dwayne Peel and Phil Booth - figured in the Wales squad for the tour of Japan.
