Glasgow Caledonians 52-15 Caerphilly

Scotland star Glenn Metcalfe grabbed a brace of tries as Glasgow Caledonians climbed into the top half of the Welsh-Scottish League with an eight try demolition of visitors Caerphilly.

Metcalfe, who has overcome a bad knee injury to forge his way back into international contention, scored either side of the interval for the Reds.

Glasgoe have flattered to deceive this season but were too classy for third-bottom Caerphilly, who have recorded just five wins all season.

The Reds raced into a 38-3 interval lead after a half where the visitors rarely looked like threatening the home line.

With fly-half Tommy Hayes in blistering form, Metcalfe was first man over the line and was followed by Fraser Stott and Gordon Simpson in the first 20 minutes.

Momentum

Alan Bulloch, Jon Steel and Hayes himself ran in tries before the break with the fly-half adding four conversions.

Luke Richards' penalty was Caerphilly's only score in reply but the Reds' momentum slowed into the second half, although two tries in 10 minutes took the game well out of the Welsh side's reach.

Metcalfe crossed for the first and Rory Kerr for the second with Hayes landing both conversions.

David Hawkins then went in for the first Caerphilly try as the game entered the final quarter and Geraint Lewis grabbed their second in the final minute to at least gain a semblance of respectability.
