Edinburgh Reivers 16-24 Swansea

Swansea opened up a six-point gap at the top of the Welsh-Scottish League with a workmanlike victory over Edinburgh Reivers at Murrayfield.

The win completes an impressive double for Swansea on Scottish soil, after they defeated Glasgow earlier in the season.

The consolation for the Scots was the outstanding form of international number eight Simon Taylor on return from injury.

Swansea had the perfect start when Geraint Lewis scored a try after just 32 seconds.

Cerith Rees missed the conversion but 90 seconds later kicked a penalty.

Splendid try

Reivers attacked for much of the next quarter of an hour but could only produce a Duncan Hodge penalty, to which Rees immediately replied.

Hodge kicked another penalty and Reivers went in at half-time leading 13-11 thanks to a try from Chris Paterson that came courtesy of a clever pass from Graham Dall.

Soon after the interval, Rees and Hodge exchanged penalties.

But, early in the final quarter of the game, Swansea moved up a gear to create a splendid try for full-back Kevin Morgan, which was converted by Rees.

When Reivers got back up-field, they earned two penalties from wide angles that were both narrowly missed by Hodge's replacement, Gordon Ross.

Reivers continued to dominate the final stages until Swansea broke up-field for Rees to close the game with his fourth penalty.
