Newport thump hapless Keys
Matt Mostyn
Matt Mostyn grabbed two tries for Newport
Newport 53-5 Cross Keys

Australian-born three quarters Matt Mostyn and Jason Jones-Hughes helped themselves to two tries apiece as Newport romped to victory against bottom side Cross Keys.

Mostyn, back in the Ireland squad, grabbed two early on and Jones-Hughes, qualified for Wales, weighed in with two himself.

And that recall will mean a busy few days for the winger.

He flies out to Ireland on Sunday for a Monday training session with his international colleagues and must then fly back to play in Newport's league clash with Llanelli on Tuesday night.

Newport gave their try-scoring count a boost with nine altogether, which could be vital at the top of a congested league table.

It was one-sided from start to finish, Newport piling up a 36-0 half-time lead.

The Black and Ambers played well despite being well below strength, resting key players in readiness for Tuesday's much tougher home test against Llanelli.

Cross Keys, rooted to the bottom of the table without a win and near certainties for relegation, were hardly in it.

Their only try came six minutes from the end when replacement scrum-half Colin Ellis crossed.

They did have a chance to take the lead early on, but Morgan Lovell fluffed an easy penalty shot and it was one-way traffic towards the Keys' line after that.
