Charvis hat-trick inspires Whites
Colin Charvis in action for Wales
Colin Charvis led the way for Swansea
Glasgow Caledonians 22-42 Swansea

A hat-trick of tries by Colin Charvis set Swansea on their way to a convincing victory, becoming the first Welsh side to win in Scotland this season.

Both sides had early opportunities, Tommy Hayes for Caledonians and Arwel Thomas for Swansea both missing penalties, but the Reds opened the scoring when Jon Steel latched onto Gordon Simpson's chip to the corner.

Hayes converted and with the ball being thrown around more tries looked likely.

Shaun Payne, celebrating his call up to the Ireland squad, collected a kick by Reds full-back Alan Bulloch and ran all of 60 yards for Swansea's opener before Charvis grabbed the first of his tries.

Charvis's second was a controversial effort, but Swansea continued to dominate territorially and ended the half 22-7 ahead with a Thomas drop goal to add to his two conversions.

The Reds stepped up the pace in the second half but could find no way through the Swansea defence and had to settle for a Hayes penalty.

A Thomas penalty restored the margin as the game entered the final quarter but two tries in two minutes by Glasgow's Hayes and Jon Stuart put the Reds back in the game and set up a grandstand finish.

But it was not to be for the Scots as Charvis's hat-trick try was converted by Thomas 10 minutes from the end before a Matthew Robinson touch down in injury-time completed the Reds' misery.

Swansea now move to second in the table, level on points with leaders Bridgend, who have scored more tries.
