David Tiueti: Second-half try for Neath
Neath 48-20 Edinburgh Reivers

Neath were much too strong for the Scots who were outplayed and outscored by a 7-2 try count.

Although the Reivers included nine full internationals in their starting line-up, they had not won in Wales for over a year and never looked capable of breaking that poor record.

Neath always had the edge, looking hungrier in both attack and defence.

Props Paul and Duncan Jones impressed in tight and loose play.

Somehow the Reivers survived a torrid opening that had them firmly on the back foot for a long period.

Remarkably, the Scots took a 16th-minute lead through a Duncan Hodge penalty, before Neath hit back with a Patrick Horgan penalty.

Hookers' try

The Scots took the lead for a second time through a second Hodge penalty, but Neath forced the breakthrough they deserved when hooker Steve Jones crossed near the posts.

Neath got a second try before the interval, centre Geraint John setting up a try by prop Paul Jones.

Edinburgh enjoyed their best spell early in the second half but the Neath defence was rock solid.

Neath replaced their entire front row and it paid dividends when replacement prop Andrew Howell sent powerful wing man Dave Tiueti racing over.

Then centre James Storey raced 40 metres for a brilliant score as Neath rammed home their supremacy.

Woeful tackling

The Welshmen added late tries by half-backs Andy Booth and Horgan, with replacement Kevin James slipping through some woeful tackling to grab Neath's seventh touchdown.

Horgan, playing at fly-half as James Brown is at the Dubai Sevens with England, contributed 18 points to the All Blacks' cause.

The Scots managed consolation efforts through full-back Chris Paterson and replacement prop Craig Smith, but they were a well beaten side.

It will be a long, 11-hour coach journey home for the disappointing Reivers.
