![]() | No joy for Monty ![]() Colin Montgomerie was left to rue missed putts Colin Montgomerie carded a second round 70 but walked off the Old Course at St Andrews a very disappointed man. He was left at three under par but was angered by a string of missed birdie opportunities on the front nine. After his round, the Scot said he would be going straight to the practice area to work on his "horrendous" putting. Montgomerie looked far from happy in direct contrast to playing partner Davis Love III who took the opportunity to chat to course officials following his game. The first sign of Montgomerie's temper failing was at the sixth when a good looking drive took an unkind bounce and went into light rough. Horrendous He was further aggravated when his group were held up by slow play in front. Love had a good day moving from two over to four under with an impressive 66. But Montgomerie moaned: "I was nearer the pin on nearly every green yet Davis scores four shots better than me. "My putting was horrendous and the only birdies I managed went in from less than three feet. "It is very disappointing and I am going away to work on it," he added before trudging off without further explanation. | See also: Other top The Open stories: Links to top The Open stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
