Woods set to rewrite record books

Woods aiming to for a historic fourth Major
Victory for Tiger Woods in this year's Open Championship at St Andrews would make him the youngest player in the history of the game to win all four Majors.

And the 24-year-old who destroyed all Major scoring records in last month's US Open, winning the competition by an amazing 15 shots, is in ravenous mood to achieve a feat which would catapult him further up the golfing stratosphere.

However the superstar is not bothered about performing more heroics, if he wins by just one stroke come Sunday, then he will be more than happy.

"It's possible, but one and 15 are the same. You still get to go home with the trophy," said Woods.

If it does not happen I think I might have a few more opportunities to complete the slam
  Tiger Woods on the record

"I have the greatest of admiration for this course. Every time I play it I learn something new."

Absorbing contest

"Everything depends on the wind conditions. I feel pretty good about my game and if there are any two tournaments you want to win and any two venues, they are the US Open at Pebble Beach and The Open at St Andrews.

"It's just ironic they happened to be in the same year and ironic that I have the chance to complete the slam on the most historic golf course ever designed.

If Woods is victorious then he would also join an elite group of players who have won all four Majors - Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus.

"It's just a wonderful opportunity. But if it does not happen I think I might have a few more opportunities to complete the slam."

The young golfer has come close to winning the Championship in the last two years.

At Birkdale he missed out by one on a play-off with Mark O'Meara and Brian Watts and then last year, at one of the most absorbing contests in recent history, Woods finished seventh after being in contention at Carnoustie.
