England reach tour finale
England's coach is hoping Flintoff will hit form at the SSC
Duncan Fletcher talks things over with Andrew Flintoff
The end of a long and tiring winter is in sight for England who will fly home after Tuesday's one-day international in Colombo.

The main objectives have been achieved with Test series victories in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

But defeats in the first two one-day games in Sri Lanka have left the selectors with plenty of food for thought as they look to build a side capable of winning the 2003 World Cup.

The final match will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club, scene of England's four-wicket triumph in the third Test just nine days ago.

Ealham: Left out for the first two games

Nick Knight, Mark Ealham and Mark Alleyne are in contention for places, having made only one appearance against a President's XI since they arrived in Sri Lanka.

Coach Duncan Fletcher wants a greater say over the scheduling of future winter tours in order to give his side a greater chance of doing well in the one-dayers.

"I'd like to make the one-day section of the winter one separate tour, so we're with the players for a certain length of time," he said.

The one-day squad had not been together since the three matches in Pakistan, which preceded the Test series.

Next winter's itinerary is better with the one-day games following the Tests in India and then coming first when the team moves on to New Zealand.

Sri Lanka's captain is doubtful because of a knee injury
Jayasuriya: Receiving treatment from the physio

"The more you play the game, the better you get at it.

"We played out last one-day internationals against Pakistan in November, about the same time Sri Lanka played South Africa. But since then they have played a further 12 matches and we've not played any," Fletcher added.

Sri Lankan skipper Sanath Jayasuriya is rated only 50-50 to play after aggravating a knee problem in Sunday's second match, which his side won by 66 runs.

Vice-captain Marvan Atapattu will lead the team if Jayasuriya fails a pre-match fitness check.
