| Azinger grabs last-gasp half ![]() Azinger's celebrates his spectacular chip on the 18th Niclas Fasth v Paul Azinger (Match halved) Paul Azinger produced an impressive comeback to gain a vital half for the USA in the Ryder Cup singles on Sunday. The American holed out from the bunker on the final hole to deny European rookie Niclas Fasth a full point. It was nerve-tingling stuff as Fasth suffered a late collapse allowing his wild card opponent back in the game.
The 42-year-old from Massachusetts twice pegged the Swede back before Fasth's dismal bogey at the 16th gave him one final chance. However the Ryder Cup rookie seemed to be back in pole position when his approach shot on the final hole landed on the edge of the green, while Azinger got stuck in a bunker. The American veteran then produced one of the shots of the competition to which Fasth could find no reply. His stunning display allowed Azinger to maintain his 100% unbeaten singles record in the competition. Fasth was naturally disappointed at letting his lead slip away. "I played good, but failed to finish it off out there - I just didn't make enough birdies," he said. |
