| Monty close to full fitness ![]() Montgomerie (left) wants fans to behave themselves Colin Montgomerie believes he is very close to being fully fit for next week's Ryder Cup. Describing himself as "95%" sure that he can play the maximum five matches, Montgomerie is sure to give European captain and fellow Scot Sam Torrance a massive boost. "My back feels a lot better than it has done which is good news for me and good for the team," Montgomerie told BBC Five Live.
"I have to be fit enough to play and play whenever Sam calls on me to do so. "Right now, I'm 95% sure that I will be fit enough to play five times if I'm called upon to do so." Montgomerie will also compete in this weekend's American Express World Championships in Ireland to make certain his fitness is right for the Ryder Cup. As the most experienced player in the European team, there is little doubt Montgomerie will be asked to play as often as possible - especially if his form is as good as it was in the recent Linde Masters. "The form is okay - the month that I had off has done me good mentally," said the Scot. He also called upon fans to make sure that they do not seek revenge for the behaviour of some unruly American fans at the last Ryder Cup at Brookline. "If there is an element out there that wishes to disrupt the Ryder Cup then I would advise them not to turn up," said Montgomerie. |
