Rory McIlroy was not at his best in the New Jersey event |
Rory McIlroy was unable to move up the leaderboard on the final day of the Barclays event in the US as he shot a closing round of 72. McIlroy's one-over-par total left him 13 shots behind winner Matt Kuchar, who defeated Scotland's Martin Laird at the first hole of a play-off. Padraig Harrington, named as a Ryder Cup wildcard earlier in the day, shot a closing 75 for one under. Paul Casey, Luke Donald and Justin Rose all finished ahead of Harrington. Casey finished five shots behind Kuchar and Laird after shooting a final-round 69 while Donald (68) and Rose (72) were a further stroke back. Laird, who led by five early in his final round, blew a glorious chance of victory by three putting for bogey at the final hole from around 25 feet. Kuchar then birdied the first play-off hole after producing a remarkable seven-shot shot out of the rough to 30 inches.
