England duo Gary Boyd and David Lynn shot 68s to share the halfway lead in the Johnnie Walker Championship on nine under with France's Julien Guerrier.

Boyd eagled the 16th for the second day running in his bogey-free round while Lynn birdied three of the last four.

Guerrier also took advantage of benign conditions at Gleneagles to sink seven birdies in his five-under-par 67.

The Ryder Cup hopes of England's Simon Dyson and Spain's Alvaro Quiros hang in the balance after they both shot 71.

Both golfers need to win in Perthshire to automatically qualify for the European team to face the United States at Celtic Manor from 1-3 October.

Dyson is the better placed after his one-under-par round left him four shots off the lead, while Quiros failed to capitalise on a strong front nine that saw him turn in three under as he dropped a couple of strokes on the way home and missed a three-foot birdie putt on the last to finish eight shots adrift.

"If I play the best 36 holes of my life I'll play in the best tournament of my life," said the 32-year-old.

606: DEBATE

The two spots Dyson and Quiros are chasing are occupied by Czech Open winner Peter Hanson and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, who is in the ninth and final automatic berth. The Spaniard will keep out a victorious Dyson if he finishes in the top nine on Sunday.

Jimenez, who has won twice on the European Tour this season, produced an excellent round with four birdies and a bogey on the front nine. He went close with several birdie putts on the back nine before rounding off with a four on the par-five last for a 68.

Swede Hanson birdied the last three holes to match his opening-day 69 and join Jimenez on six under.

Italy's Edoardo Molinari, who is hoping to be one of Colin Montgomerie's wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup, reminded the Scot of his credentials by sinking four birdies in the last six holes to join his brother Francesco on six under for the tournament.

England's Ross Fisher looked set to threaten the course record of 63 with eight birdies in his opening 11 holes, but he bogeyed the next four to finish with a five under par 67.
