Daniel Gaunt retains his lead on the PGA Europro Order of Merit |
Australian Daniel Gaunt won the English Challenge at Stoke By Nayland Golf Club after a tight finish. Gaunt and hotly tipped English amateur Tommy Fleetwood were both 17 under at the start of the final hole, but Fleetwood dropped a shot at the last. It was the first Challenge Tour event to be held at the club, where Suffolk's Jamie Moul is a member. Moul missed the cut though, after he could only finish on level par after his first two rounds. Moul was in good company as former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart also missed out, along with Gary Wolstenholme, one of the pre-tournament favourites. The golf did not disappoint though, and those in charge at the club hope it will not be too long before Stoke by Nayland hosts another Challenge Tour event. The reward for Gaunt was a cheque for 24,000 Euros and a one-year exemption on the Challenge Tour. Fleetwood, who shared second place with Scotland's Craig Lee, will play in the English Amateur Championship, starting at the Little Aston and Sutton Coldfield clubs in Birmingham this week.
