Englishman Steven Tiley dropped seven shots in eight holes on Saturday as the weather-hit second round of the Open came to an end at St Andrews.

Tiley, 27, was tied for third place on six under when play was abandoned on Friday with 30 players on the course.

He fell to one over and only just made the cut, which came at two over.

Spain's Alejandro Canizares and amateur Jin Jeong of Korea both finished on six under, six shots behind runaway leader Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa.

"The last eight holes were just panic really," said Tiley. "I couldn't make a par. I got off to a bad start. The greens were slower than yesterday and I couldn't stop making bogeys.

"I got about three hours' sleep. I got home at 11pm, had some food, went to bed at 11.30pm, tossed and turned all night and the alarm went at 4am. Now I need to group and try to enjoy it again."

Canizares had four holes left to play and birdied the 18th to card a 71, while 20-year-old Jeong also birdied the last for a round of 70.

They joined England's Lee Westwood and Paul Casey in a tie for third, one shot behind former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia.

Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke resumed on the 16th and fired a second successive 70 to reach four under, the same score as world number one Tiger Woods.

Canizares, Jeong and Clarke were the only players of the last 105 that teed off in the second round to break par, as strong winds caused chaos on Friday.

Britain's Justin Rose, who won in the US last week, was among those who missed the cut but 77 players made it through to the final two rounds.

The third round started in breezy but sunny conditions at 1000 BST, with the last group of Calcavecchia and Oosthuizen scheduled to tee off at 1640 BST.
