Stephen Gallacher felt like he had "just gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson" but was just happy to remain in contention at the halfway point of the Scottish Open. "I would prefer to be top of the leaderboard, but top Scot will do," he said in reaction to the news that he was leading home player at Loch Lomond. Gallacher dropped two shots after a 73 to lie two under par on a day when the star-studded field was battered by high winds and driving rain. "It was an absolutely brutal day," said the 35-year-old. "It was actually worse when the rain stopped because you could judge the wind direction when it was raining." Gallacher is eight shots behind leader Darren Clarke going into the final two rounds. | I would prefer to be top of the leaderboard, but top Scot will do |
"I am happy with that," said the Scot. "I did not play that well today, so to be up there in contention after two rounds is fine." Only four other Scots made the cut, which fell at two over par. US-based Martin Laird had a second consecutive par 71, while the three others finished a stroke further back. Richie Ramsay had a second-round 74, while David Drysdale carded a 72. Unheralded Craig Lee, who last month won the Dunlop Masters at Bovey Castle and finished last season top of the Tartan Tour order of merit, carded a 72 to sit on level par for the tournament.
