Rhys Davies' maiden win was at the Hassan II trophy in Morocco |
Rhys Davies was one of just 11 players that fired an under-par US Open second round to ensure the Welsh rookie survived the Pebble Beach cut. The 25-year-old, ranked 45th in the world, was one of a 156-strong field and remains with 82 fellow hopefuls on the weekend thanks to the 10-shot rule. Davies, fifth in Europe's moneylist, made the cut as he was within ten shots of overnight leader Graeme McDowell. He followed up his 78 opening round with a round of one-under par 70. Davies will begin his third round at 1950 BST alongside 2003 Open winner Ben Curtis. It is the Welshman's first cut made in his third major attempt after playing at the 2007 US Open and 2009 Open Championship at Turnberry.
