Darren Clarke produced a strong finish in the final round |
Darren Clarke showed a return to better form as he shot a final-round 66 to finish in a share of sixth place at the Estoril Open in Portugal. Clarke's six-under-par round left him eleven shots behind runaway winner Denmark's Thomas Bjorn. The Dane shot a closing 68 which left him four clear of Richard Green (70). Another Dane Mark Haastrup was seven behind in third with Robert Rock fourth ahead of Irishman Damien McGrane who finished with five straight bogeys. McGrane was battling for the runners-up spot with Australian Green after carding four birdies and no dropped shots in his opening 13 holes. However, McGrane's dismal finish saw him drop to fifth place as he finished 10 shots behind winner Bjorn. Clarke carded seven birdies and a solitary bogey in his closing round. Gary Murphy finished on three under par after a closing 72.
