Boyd will play his second 'major' at Pebble Beach |
Northamptonshire golfer Gary Boyd has qualified for the US Open for the first time in his career. Boyd, 23, is playing his first full season on the European Tour and secured his place with rounds of 67 and 69 in Monday's qualifier at Walton Heath. "Any major you get to play in is an achievement in itself," Banbury-born Boyd told BBC Radio Northampton. "This is my second and it will be pretty exciting for me. My aim is to play in all four of the majors." He added: "Then it will be a case of trying to win one of them. "I'm playing pretty well at the moment so you never know." Boyd, who competed in the 2008 Open Championship at Birkdale, qualified ahead of big names including Europe's Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke and new PGA champion Simon Khan. The US Open begins at Pebble Beach, California, on Thursday, 17 June.
