 Gallacher has come through a tough time with illness
Stephen Gallacher said he was "absolutely delighted" to have secured his European Tour card for next season. Gallacher's fourth-placed finish at the PGA Championship means he is now well within the projected earnings cut after a difficult period of illness. "It's just good to be back in the fold again. I've got my tour card back, which is lovely," said Gallacher. "That was the number one goal. I've done that, so I'm absolutely delighted. It's been a long hard year." This season, the 35-year-old was afforded a medical exemption after missing several months of last year with an auto-immune illness that affected his lymph glands. "I couldn't compete and I had to go to tour school. I've been travelling everywhere to play tournaments I could play. "There are times when the illness gets you a bit down. "Golf is the only thing I'm good at. So, when you're not playing, it it's quite hard. "My wife was good as well - she took the brunt of it." With the exemption running out after the tournament at Wentworth, the fine showing to end just four shots behind winner Simon Khan was perfect timing. Gallacher's prize money of nearly £200,000 means he will be among the top 115 golfers on the European Tour, guaranteeing his place for next season. "I've actually hit the ball really well over the weekend off the tee," he added. "It's positive and putting things in the right direction. "Now I'm definitely trying to kick on from here." Fellow Scots Paul Lawrie and Alastair Forsyth also put in confidence-boosting displays. Former Open champion Lawrie was four shots of the pace, while Forsyth's joint-29th placing was his best in more than a year.
