 Chris Wood shot a disappointing 77 |
Bristol's Chris Wood says he does not know how he dropped a two-shot lead to end up finishing tied for sixth place in the PGA Championship at Wentworth. The 22-year-old overnight leader ended his final round with a 77, 11 shots behind surprise winner Simon Khan. "I thought I hit quite a lot of good shots that were just one or two yards off perfection," said Wood. "I said to my caddie I don't really know what I can learn from today as I didn't hit that many bad shots." "I seemed to be hitting shots right over the flags and ending up 15 feet away on the fringe. "Nothing seemed to be going for me and, after a few holes, that became quite demoralising." A double bogey at the par-four third was followed by four more dropped shots as Wood finished on two under, four shots behind Khan. The final day was in stark contrast to the previous three for the 2009 rookie of the year as he had played superbly to put himself in contention for a maiden tour victory. "It's the first time I've led going into the last round and that was an experience," Wood added.
