Woods could face Montgomerie's Europe team in October

European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie says he welcomes Tiger Woods' return at next month's Masters.

Woods last played in November before details of his infidelity emerged, but he remains in one of the qualifying spots for the United States team.

"He's certainly been missed by players and fans. Everyone is looking forward to seeing him," said Montgomerie

US team captain Corey Pavin says he wants Woods in his side for this year's Cup at Celtic Manor on 1-3 October.

Once Woods is back playing again, there is bound to be speculation over whether he will want to play in the Cup.

Despite all his individual success, the 34-year-old has only been on the winning side once in five attempts - and when America won the trophy two years ago he was absent through injury.

But Pavin says someone with Woods' experience would be able to deal with the pressure and any possible crowd barracking without any problems.

"If there's anybody on this planet that can handle any situation on the golf course, it would be Tiger Woods," he said.

"He is as mentally tough as anybody I've ever seen in my life and I don't expect for there to be any problems any way."

Following the storm of publicity about his personal conduct at the end of last year, Woods made his first public appearance in February to apologise for his actions.

At the time, he said he did not know when he would make a return to the sport and opted to miss both the Tavistock Cup and Arnold Palmer Invitational.

He later announced that Augusta would be the venue for his return as he looks to win the tournament for the fifth time and add to his haul of 14 majors.
