English trio Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Oliver Wilson reached the quarter-finals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play in Tucson, Arizona. Casey, the highest seed remaining and last year's runner-up, had another 5&4 victory, this time over Brian Gay. Poulter beat Jeev Milkha Singh by the same margin but Wilson and compatriot Luke Donald had a real tussle. Wilson won it when he holed from 40 feet at the second extra hole and Donald missed a short putt. With nine second places and no victories on the European Tour, Wilson will be hoping for a change in fortune in Arizona over the weekend.  | 606: DEBATE |
"It could have gone either way and fortunately it went mine," said Wilson, who also won his second-round match against Rory McIlroy at the 20th hole. Wilson will next play Spaniard Sergio Garcia, who made the quarters for the first time in nine appearances in the tournament. After his comfortable win over Gay, Casey is up against reigning Open champion and lone surviving American Stewart Cink, who has finished second and third in the last two years. Casey, the highest remaining seed at six, has not had to play the final four holes in any of his matches so far and the 2006 European World Match Play Championship winner is in confident mood. "I don't think there's any one particular part of my game that's jumping out that is fantastic right now," he said. "It's just all very, very solid." Poulter will play Thongchai Jaidee after having few problems in beating India's Jeev Milkha Singh. In the other quarter-final, South African Retief Goosen will face Colombian Camilo Villegas. Goosen eased past Nick Watney on the final hole, while Villegas saw off Ben Crane with two holes remaining.
