Barry Lane's bid to become the oldest winner on the European Tour fell short as he finished tied for third at the Avantha Masters in New Delhi. The 49-year-old, one of seven players tied for the overnight lead, went round in 71 to finish two behind eventual winner Andrew Dodt. The Australian shot a 68 to finish on 14 under, one shot clear of England's Richard Finch, who carded a 66. Richard Bland, Tetsuji Hiratsuka and David Drysdale joined Lane in third. Dodt had five birdies and one bogey on his card and had to birdie the last to claim the title. "It was a huge relief when I birdied the 18th," he said.  | 606: DEBATE |
"I can't describe the feeling that I have now, to win a professional golf tournament is absolutely huge. "I've come close a few times and to actually pull it off is a dream come true. This win is going to open a few doors for me and I'm really excited. I managed to hold on to my nerves today and I got the job done." Second-placed Finch declared himself "really pleased" with his tournament. "It was good to put a last round together because I started four shots off the lead and there were a lot of people between me and the guys at the top so it was always going to take something special," he said. "It is nice to get a good result on the board because I have had a frustrating time lately of playing well and not getting the rewards or results. I can hopefully kick on from here."
