Woods beat Leishman into second at the BMW Championship in September |
Tiger Woods has been named the PGA Tour player of the year by his fellow professionals for the 10th time. The world number one is taking a break from golf to try and save his marriage after admitting to infidelity. The 33-year-old won six of the 17 tournaments he started after recovering from knee surgery, and he also had three top-10 finishes. Australian Marc Leishman, 26, was named rookie of the year. He had three top-10 finishes including a second place. That came at the BMW Championship in September, when he finished tied with Jim Furyk, eight shots adrift of winner Woods. | 606: DEBATE |
PGA Tour chief Tim Finchem said: "Both players enjoyed outstanding seasons capped off by success in the play-offs. "The recognition by their peers is the one of the highest compliments a PGA Tour member can receive." Woods, who continues to have a low profile following the revelations about his private life, has also recently been voted athlete of the decade by US Sports editors and male player of the year by the Golf Writers Association of America - the 10th time he has won the award in his 13-year professional career.
