United States clinched the Solheim Cup for a third consecutive time with a 16-12 victory over Europe. Europe fought back to draw level with their hosts at 8-8 going into Sunday's singles at Sugar Grove, Illinois. But the US secured the decisive 14th point when Morgan Pressel beat Swede Anna Nordqvist 3&2 to keep up their unbeaten record home soil. "It's been a long week, we played great and I'm so proud of my team. It's a great feeling," said Pressel. The Americans won the first point of the day when Angela Stanford crushed Britain's Becky Brewerton 5&4 in the second match. The biggest shift came when Juli Inkster and Brittany Lang turned around matches that appeared to be going Europe's way, scratching out critical halves. Three matches were still being played when the Americans clinched the cup with Christina Kim's 2-up win over Tania Elosegui giving the Americans 15 points and the title outright. "The girls have played well," said Europe captain Alison Nicholas. "It was good fun, but it's still disappointing. The girls tried to keep up with them but they just holed a few more putts than us. "It's tough to come over here and win, and to be honest with you, we were huge underdogs to start the week." US captain Beth Daniel added: "I just can't even believe they've done this because for a while it really didn't look like it was going to be possible."
