Rory McIlroy was one over par for his second round at Hazeltine |
Rory McIlroy is seven shots behind leader Tiger Woods at the halfway stage of the USPGA at Hazeltine. The 20-year-old added a second-round 73 to his opening 71 to be on level par for the tournament, while Graeme McDowell is one shot further back. McDowell's 75 left him on one over but the third Northern Ireland man Darren Clarke missed the cut by six shots. Defending champion Padraig Harrington is four shots behind Woods and in a group tied for second place. At one stage on Friday, McDowell had been tied with Woods at four under, the Northern Irishman teeing off on the back nine at two under and sinking birdies at the par-four 12th and 14th holes. However, six bogeys saw McDowell fall away. McIlroy would have finished under par but for a double-bogey five at the 17th.
