Wood worry over course injuries

Chris Wood
Chris Wood will make his US PGA debut in August

Nailsea golfer Chris Wood is concerned about a repeat of the wrist injury he suffered at Turnberry.

The 21-year-old was hurt playing out of the rough on the 14th hole at the Open, where he finished joint third.

"You've got to be so careful these days - so many players can injure their wrists in the thick rough we have to play in," Wood told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I had an MRI scan on it last week and it was swollen around the joints but the cartilage was fine."

Wood pulled out of the SAS Masters in Sweden after suffering the injury but has returned to action at the Czech Open, where he is three under par after two rounds.

"I didn't hit a ball for five or six days so it (the wrist) felt a bit ropey," he said.

Wood's performance at Turnberry earned him a place in the US PGA Championship at Hazeltine in Minnesota, starting on 13 August.

"People have said they're surprised to see me here but three weeks without playing I think would have been a bit too much.

"I'm treating this week as good practice for the next few weeks ahead," he said.
