Disappointment at the Open has spurred Wood on for greater success
Golfer Chris Wood has pulled out of the SAS Masters in Sweden because of a wrist injury he sustained at the Open.
Wood, 21, finished joint third at Turnberry and was "devastated" to end only a shot behind winner Stewart Cink.
But the experience has spurred him on to believe he can challenge for titles on the European Tour as well as at Majors, starting with August's USPGA.
"It's made me more determined not to finish second or third again. I want to win things," said Bristol-born Wood.
Wood boasts a proud record from his two Opens having finished equal fifth on his debut as an amateur at Royal Birkdale 12 months ago.
His first experience as a professional has resulted in him climbing to 144th in the world rankings and earned invites to this year's USPGA Championship and the 2010 Masters at Augusta.
And he has also rocketed up to 31st spot in the race for a place at the end-of-season Dubai World Championship for the European Tour's top 60 players.
But despite the success, Wood's over-riding emotion is one of disappointment at falling agonisingly short of a first title in the sport's biggest competition.
He told BBC Radio Bristol: "There's not quite so much enjoyment this time. I really, really had a chance to win it.
"Last year as an amateur I probably didn't really quite have a chance to win it. I'm a lot more disappointed.
"But I'm pretty much secured in the race for Dubai at the end of the season and I'm into the Masters next year as well so the Open's been pretty good to me."
Wood sustained a slight sprain to his wrist hitting out of rough on the 14th, but hopes to make his return at the Moravia Silesia Open in the Czech Republic on Thursday, 30 July, his final event before heading to America to play the USPGA at Hazeltine National.
