Storm hopes his putting will improve on Friday

Hartlepool's Graeme Storm said he was disappointed with his performance as he opened with a two-over-72 at Turnberry on Thursday.

Storm had targeted a top-10 finish this week - but three front-nine bogeys saw him struggle to 38 at the turn.

He then birdied the short 11th to come home in 34, but admitted to BBC Sport: "I just got off to a bad start.

"I missed two short putts for par on the front nine and from there it was a case of trying to hang in on there."

Storm, 31, who had hoped to improve on last year's 39th best Open finish at Royal Birkdale, added: "I didn't actually hit that many bad putts. I just kept shaving holes.

"But I made one at 11, and had a few chances over last the six holes, so hopefully a few more will drop tomorrow.

"It's as easy as you're going to get it and I'm disappointed with my score but I didn't really play that great."
