Darren Clarke is the best placed Northern Ireland player on four under par after the second round of the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond on Friday. Clarke fired a second successive 69 to lie in a tie for 22nd position, seven shots behind leader Retief Goosen. Rory McIlroy is three under after posting a level-par 71 while defending champion Graeme McDowell just made the halfway cut as a 72 left him on level. Gareth Maybin on one over and Michael Hoey on six over both missed the cut. Paul McGinley remains the best Irish player on six under after recording a 71 on Friday. Clarke registered five birdies, one bogey and a double-bogey in his second 18 holes. McIlroy carded an eagle, four birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey in his round. McDowell had two birdies and three bogeys in his one-over round while Maybin signed for a 73 and Hoey posted a 75. Damien McGrane is three under thanks to a 68 and Shane Lowry is two under after a 71 so both play the final two rounds but Peter Lawrie misses the cut following a 70, as does Gary Murphy who lay two over after a 72. South African Goosen leads by two shots from Adam Scott, with Marcus Fraser and Martin Kaymer a further shot behind in joint third.
