Fisher will compete at this week's Scottish Open at Loch Lomond |
In-form Ross Fisher is prepared to miss this year's Open championship at Turnberry if his wife goes into labour. Fisher's wife Jo is due to give birth to their first child two days before the tournament starts on 16 July. Fisher, who finished fifth at last month's US Open, told BBC Berkshire: "Whenever he or she comes, I'll be out. "I'd love to play in the Open because I feel I have a great chance, but golf's not the most important thing to me, right now or ever." Fisher added: "It's my job, but I'm married to Jo and family comes first. It's going to be a truly remarkable experience. "If it's during the Open or after the Open, whenever he or she does decide to come, I'll certainly make sure that I'll make it home. "Jo tells me it's not likely to be a short labour so, hopefully, I'll have time to sink that winning putt on the Sunday afternoon and get the hell out of there." And Fisher joked he did have one name in mind. "If it's a girl, then maybe Ailsa. But I'll have to win the thing first."
