Donald has had four top 10s on the PGA Tour this season |
England's Luke Donald fired an eight-under par 64 to take a three-shot lead after the first round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, Ohio. Donald picked up eight shots in nine holes to surge clear of Jim Furyk, Ted Purdy, Jason Day and Thomas Aiken. Steve Marino, Stewart Cink and Mark Wilson are a further shot adrift while Tiger Woods carded 69 for three under at the Jack Nickalus-hosted event. Paul Casey ended one over, but Justin Rose amassed an eight-over 80. However, the day belonged to Donald whose run, which started on the eighth hole, helped him record the lowest score of his PGA Tour season so far. "I just got on a hot streak," he said. "Eight under through nine holes, that doesn't happen very often but when you get on that roll, it feels pretty good. "So I just kept going and made some birdies." Elsewhere, Padraig Harrington struggled to a three over par 75 alongside Fiji's Vijay Singh.
