Padraig Harrington was well off the pace after a disappointing opening round

World number four Padraig Harrington struggled to a two-over-par 74 in the first round of the PGA's Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California.

The Irishman finished nine shots adrift of the clubhouse leaders after a run of three bogeys in his first four holes.

His countryman Paul McGinley fared little better, finishing level par.

Americans Robert Garrigus and Dustin Johnson headed the leaderboard after seven-under-par 65s, while compatriot Phil Mickelson is on level par.
