England's Nick Dougherty carded a 66 on day one of the Malaysian Open, but 17-year-old South Korean Noh Seung-yul stole the show with a 10-under-par 62.

Noh, last season's Asian Tour rookie of the year, fired an eagle and nine birdies to lead by one stroke from Sweden's Alexander Noren.

Dougherty had six birdies and an eagle in his round and is tied for fifth.

Welshman Rhys Davies is one shot back, one ahead of Scottish duo Ross Bain and Andrew Coltart.

World number 11 and Ryder Cup star Anthony Kim slumped to a six-over 78, the American failing to pick up a birdie all day at the event sanctioned by the Asian and European tours.

Noh's 62 bettered the course best by two shots, but will not stand as the record because preferred lies were used.

"I didn't make any mistakes today and I putted really well. I'm happy but you don't win a tournament on the first day," he said afterwards.

Noh won last year's China Classic and was runner-up three times as he finished 10th on Asia's order of merit.
