Lee Westwood will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the South Africa Open at Pearl Valley.

The 35-year-old Englishman, who started the day two shots adrift of Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera, carded a second straight four-under 68 to move clear.

Lorenzo-Vera, after rounds of 67 and 65, could only manage a 72 to fall back into a tie for second with Northern Irishman Gareth Maybin, who shot a 69.

A 67 lifted Maybin's compatriot Rory McIlroy to 11 under, three shots back.

McIlroy is tied with South African duo George Coetzee and Retief Goosen, while Irishman Damien McGrane is now four shots off the pace after a 72.

"It's a good position to be in. You want to be leading, so I'm pleased with the position," said world number 10 Westwood.

606: DEBATE

"I'm just pleased with the way I played the last three days, I've been very solid and made just one bogey, I think.

"It was good to see a bit more breeze today, it helped me a bit more tee-to-green and that's probably the strongest part of my game at the moment, so I'm pretty pleased."

Westwood last won a European Tour event in September 2007 as he was victorious in the British Masters.

He has claimed 13 top 10 finishes this year, but admitted he is not getting too carried away with his current position.

"All week long, all I've tried to do is minimise the mistakes and just get around," he added.

"I'm just enjoying it and I look forward to going out and playing every day the way I'm hitting the ball. It's a golf course I enjoy playing."

The round of the day was from Austrian Bernd Wiesberger who hit six birdies, an eagle and a bogey on his way to a seven-under-par 65 to move into to 10 under par.

However, four-time champion Ernie Els did not enjoy the best of days as he hit a woeful five over par 77 to drop out of contention having started the day in second place.
