England's Rock was the early clubhouse leader on six under par |
England pair Lee Westwood and Robert Rock are one shot off the leaders after the opening round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa. They both shot six-under-par 66s to trail pacesetters Len Mattiace of the US and Sweden's Michael Jonzon. Jonzon was five under for the front nine at Leopard Creek Golf Club after three birdies and an eagle. Spain's Rafael Cabrera Bello and Johan Edfors of Sweden joined Westwood and Rock on six under. World number 10 Westwood, who is the highest-ranked player in the field, had six birdies and no bogeys in his 66. Rock had earlier set the clubhouse target with his round, which included five birdies in six holes on his way to reaching the turn in 32. "It was a good opening nine," said the 31-year-old. "I played really well on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, so I kind of just followed up from those practice rounds. "I had two reasonably short eagle putts, which I missed, and that was a little bit disappointing. But it was still a good round and I'm quite happy." England's John Morgan was a further shot behind his compatriots, while 2004 champion Charl Schwartzel was one of 14 players on four under par.
