Sweden's Henrik Stenson is in a rich vein of form |
Henrik Stenson held a five-shot lead when play was abandoned midway through round two of the Sun City Challenge in South Africa because of lightning. Sweden's Stenson, who carded a 63 on Thursday, had just completed the first nine holes in 34 strokes, moving him to 11 under par overall. South Africa's Rory Sabbatini was five shots back after nine holes. South Korea's KJ Choi and Sweden's Robert Karlsson were both four under after 12 second-round holes. "I was scrambling a bit more compared to yesterday," said Stenson, who helped Sweden win the World Cup in China last weekend. "But I am playing well. I am not trying to defend a lead. If I can give myself enough birdie opportunities I can keep moving forward." Stenson's only blemish on Friday came at the first hole when he hit his tee shot into thick rough and was well short of the green with his second shot. The Swede hit straight back with a two-putt birdie at the par-five second, hit a seven iron to four feet for another birdie at the fifth and pitched to three feet for another birdie at the par-five ninth. England's Lee Westwood is three under for the tournament after completing 11 holes, but pre-tournament favourite Sergio Garcia is nine off the pace after 12 holes. Defending champion Trevor Immelman of South Africa is one over after 13 holes.
