Rory McIlroy was fourth in the Singapore Open

Rory McIlroy is six shots behind leaders Wen-chong Liang and Richard Sterne after Thursday's opening round of the Hong Kong Open.

McIlroy carded an opening round of level-par 70 to lie in a tie for 48th position as he seeks to build on his fourth place at the Singapore Open.

Gareth Maybin, Graeme McDowell and Paul McGinley are all tied for 75th after disappointing one-over-par rounds.

Wen-tang Lin and Frankie Minoza are joint second on five under.
