Donald's wrist injury ruled him out of September's Ryder Cup

Luke Donald is set to make his return from injury by competing in the Sun City Challenge in December.

The Englishman has not played since injuring his left wrist during the final round of the US Open on 15 June and underwent surgery in August.

The 30-year-old replaces Anthony Kim in the 12-man field after the American withdrew with an ankle problem.

The �3m tournament will take place at the Gary Player Country Club in South Africa from 4-7 December.

Among the main contenders are world number six Robert Karlsson and Masters champion Trevor Immelman.

Donald, a member of the triumphant European Ryder Cup team in 2004 and 2006, will be making his third appearance at Sun City having finished one shot out of a four-man playoff on his debut in 2005 and in a tie for sixth last year.

Kim's withdrawal ends hopes of a possible rematch with world number two Sergio Garcia after the Ryder Cup rookie handed the Spaniard a 5&4 defeat in the last-day singles to help the United States beat Europe at Valhalla in September.

"After attempting to play through an ankle injury recently in New Zealand and China my doctors have recommended I limit my upcoming play to allow the injury to recover," said Kim.

"Unfortunately it causes me to have to withdraw, which is very disappointing because I was looking forward to playing in South Africa."
