Woosnam says he relishes the chance to be competitive again

Ian Woosnam finished second at the Lake Garda Italian Seniors Open to close on the Order of Merit title.

A flawless final round of 67 at the Palazzo Arzaga Hotel saw him finish level with Gordon Brand, one shot behind winner Peter Mitchell from Kent.

Woosnam's cheque for �17,000 took him �30,000 clear of Bernhard Langer in the Order of Merit with one event to go.

"I hit some good shots but not quite enough to catch Peter, he's really on a roll," said Woosnam.

He will get the chance to seal the Order of Merit title in his debut season in the Castellon Open at the Club de Campo del Mediterraneo (7-9 November).
